The Rising Sun Open was played on Saturday amid calm, sunny conditions which resulted in a great days golf with everyone seeming to enjoy their day. There was a lot of praise for the condition of the course, especially from those visitors who were visiting for the first time, or who don’t play it regularly so many thanks must go to the greenkeeping team and those volunteers who help keep the course in the current condition.
65 players, including 35 visitors representing 16 golf clubs took part in the open and there was generally very good scoring with 8 players scoring nett par or better.
The scratch competition was won by Craig Perrie, representing Braehead Golf Club, with a score of 67. This was enough to pip Scott Mackenzie’s 70 which was set in the first three ball and stood as the target for most of the day. Steven Duncan of Stirling Golf Club took third place in the Scratch Competition.
The handicap competition was won by Ian Houston with a tremendous nett score of 62. William Whitfield of Falkirk Tryst Golf Club took the second place in the handicap competition and Declan Hayes, representing Kirkhill Golf Club took the third prize.
Nearest the line on the 3rd/12th was also won by William Whitfield and nearest the pin at the 9th/18th was won by Ryan Perrie of Stirling Golf Club very late in the day.
Finally, there were 4 scores of 3 (or better) on the first hole. After a draw, the winner of the bottle of whisky was Alan King of Stirling Golf Club.
