New Members Event & Gaining a Handicap

February 23, 2023 by Administrator

As a Committee, we have been looking at ways in which we can support new and less experienced members to make the most of their membership with Bridge of Allan Golf Club.

At the start of the 2021 season, we reached out to new members to welcome them to the Club by inviting them to a New Member Event in the Clubhouse. This year I would like to broaden the invite to all members, as we recognise existing members may also appreciate support.
To this end we will be holding a revamped New Member Event in the Clubhouse on 2 dates in March, if you would like to attend, please confirm this by responding to membershipsecretary@bofagc.com, advising of which event you would prefer to attend:
Wed 15 March at 19:30
Sun 19 March at 13:30

At the meeting you’ll be able to sit back, enjoy a drink from the bar, whilst we cover the following topics:

  • The Club in general
  • Obtaining and maintaining a handicap
  • Competitions
  • The Clubhouse
  • The DIP Scheme
  • Bar Card
Our aim is to give new members an overview of how the club operates, the activities you can get involved in and the support we can offer you. If you are an existing member who is looking to gain a handicap but feel unsure on how to achieve this or would simply like to meet other golf buddies, this may also be an excellent opportunity for you.
Following these events, we will be ringfencing tees on the afternoon of 26th March, solely for attendees of the meetings. This will be a safe, no pressure environment where we will play 9 holes around the course; subject to favourable course conditions, we are hoping those interested will be able to submit their first card toward their handicap. These groups will be led by Club representatives who will be able to support and answer any questions you may have.
Two areas we are very keen to focus on and demystify are Handicaps and Club Competitions. Both of these are a wonderful part of the game and are a way to meet new golfers and make great friendships. As detailed above we will cover both elements at the New Member Meetings.
If you are interested in attending, can you please confirm your preferred date to membershipsecretary@bofagc.com
Please indicate in your email what you will be looking to get from the meeting.
We look forward to meeting you!!

Bridge of Allan Golf Club is a 9 hole Old Tom Morris course, built with spectacular views of Stirling and the Trossachs. After recently celebrating its 125th anniversary, it’s a beautiful yet challenging piece of Golfing history in a stunning setting with one of the hardest opening holes in the country. This year it has been nominated by the Scottish Golf Tourism Awards as “Best 9 Hole Course“.

We are now able to accept applications for new members to join us for the coming season. The online membership form is here: https://www.bofagc.com/online-membership-form/

Details of our pricing plans etc can be found here: https://www.bofagc.com/memberships/

Members can also bring friends with them for a guest fee of £8.

We have a lovely Club House that serves food and drinks and members are welcome to drop in any time.

If you are new to golf, or someone who has played for years and never got a handicap – we’re here to help you. Our membership secretary can introduce you to likeminded golfers and would be happy to show you around the course.

We are a friendly bunch so if you have any questions, email: membershipsecretary@bofagc.com and Simon will be happy to help you out.

Free Competition, Steak Pie Sunday, then AGM

November 30, 2022 by Administrator

With the AGM being held in the clubhouse at 4pm this Sunday we decided to hold a small competition beforehand to get us all in the golfing mood and to have a fresh look at the course before the meeting.

There are now 8 tee times set up from 12:30 to 13:40 on Sunday afternoon where you can go out and play a 9 hole stableford competition. This is open to all categories of members, gents should play from the Yellow tees and Ladies from the Red tees where they are in different places.

Helene will be on hand with steak pie or fish and chips for after the round to fuel everyone before the AGM starts at 16:00. The cost of each is £10 and there will be no entry fee to the competition itself.

If you would like to come along and join in, just book your spot in one of the ‘competition’ slots in BRS and email matchsecretary@bofagc.com  letting us know if you would like steak pie or fish and chips so that Helene can get the appropriate amount of each in.

Looking forward to seeing as many members as possible on the day – this is your club!

Prize Giving 2022

November 28, 2022 by Administrator

We had our Annual Prize Giving on Saturday night and it was a great night.

First and foremost a major “thank you” has to go to Helene and Jimmy for putting on such a lovely evening. They served us haggis, neeps and tatties and worked hard all night to make sure everyone had a good time. A big shoutout also has to go to our Match Secretary, Graeme Cameron, for all of his hard work organising the prizes and for polishing all of those trophies!

The biggest winners of the night were Scott Mackenzie and Mary Watson. Our new Club Champions! Some phenomenal play throughout the year to pip their runners up Jamie Drummond and Isabel MacFarlane at the post.

There was a massive list of trophies given out on the night and if you want the full rundown of the winners, you can go to your Club V1 app, scroll down to “Documents” and open the folder “Competition and Handicapping”. You’ll find the full list in there.

Some winners couldn’t make it on the night, they can pick up their Scottish Golf vouchers at the Clubhouse Bar.

Glad everyone enjoyed the disco and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!!
